Using water in an environmentally compatible and innovative way is one of the key geopolitical tasks of the 21st century and simultaneously a significant economic challenge. The BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues, the political forum for water and waste water management, serve the goal to make their contribution to these responsibilities. With their flexible exchange formats the BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues provide a policy-oriented platform for the broad international networking to discuss specific options and solutions to the worldwide challenges of global water management. The expertise, qualifications and skills for the sought-after technologies and services are available.
BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues see themselves in the long term as the leading political forum of the water industry in Germany. This is typified by the internationality of the participants from governments, non-governmental organizations, research and science, by the participation of the decision-makers of international water users from industry, energy and agriculture and also from the major cities, and by the benefits associated with Berlin as a location of trade fairs and as an internationally acknowledged site of expertise in the water sector.
BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues is an established English-language series of events in the international water sector. It was created in 2011, with the goal of being an evolving platform for exchanging knowledge, ideas, concepts, and experiences with politicians, private industry, researchers and non-government organizations.
This year’s conference focused on change processes and sustainable adaption concepts for urban spaces worldwide on their way to become “water smart”. How can water management become part of urban change processes and what opportunities are offered for achieving the UN sustainability goals of Agenda 2030 (in particular SDG 6 and SDG 11)? Proven experts from business, research, politics and non-governmental organisations presented their concepts in the morning and discussed with the audience in the afternoon during a “Worldcafé”.
One of the most urgent water sector problems of our times was at the heart of the next event organised by BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues: Driving Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Water Sector. The water related conference took place in a historical venue in the heart of Berlin on 29 November 2017.
Around 80 participants pursued the panel discussion between national and international experts about the necessary regulatory, political and technical framework for an holistic transition. During the second part of this issue of BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues, successful German projects conducted abroad that focus on energy generation and savings were given a platform for presentation and discussion.
