Boreal Light GmbH is a Berlin-based manufacturer of water treatment and cooling technology for places where reliable power and clean water can’t be taken for granted. Our systems run on solar energy. They work in hot climates, at remote sites and where grid access is limited or absent, without batteries or diesel generators. Today our installations deliver water and ice in more than 25 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe.

Solar desalination
Our solar-powered reverse osmosis systems turn seawater, brackish water and saline groundwater into safe water for drinking, irrigation and industrial use. They run directly on solar power, without battery storage, which keeps both upfront and running costs low. Typical users are rural communities, water utilities, hospitals, hotels, farms and industrial sites.

Ultrafiltration
Where the water source is fresh but contaminated, our ultrafiltration systems remove bacteria, viruses, suspended solids and turbidity from surface water, rivers and wells. They produce safe drinking water with very low energy use, which makes them well suited to solar operation and to emergency and humanitarian settings.

Cooling and ice making
Our water chillers and ice-makers are built for the same conditions as our water systems. They keep fish, fruit, vegetables and dairy cold after catch and harvest, reducing food loss. They also provide cooling for hotels and hospitals and process cooling for industry. Combined with our water treatment, they let a single site produce both clean water and ice from local resources.

Built to last in the field
Systems are supplied ready to run in containers or built into existing sites, and they scale from village supply to industrial capacity. We design for simplicity: about 80% of maintenance needs only basic tools, so local operators can keep the systems running. Through our WaterKiosk model, communities can buy affordable water from locally run kiosks, which keeps operation financially sustainable over the long term.
