Sustainable Utility Partnerships

GWP working group operation and capacity development – together with german utilities and in close cooperation with the german development cooperation especially GIZ – developed a new modell of partnerships of german utilities and utilities in emerging and developing countries. The BMZ has adopted this approach and, starting in summer 2019, will implement a pilot project in which three to five partnerships will be developed and implemented. The goal is to build long-term collaborations that will take effect beyond the pilot phase. Sustainable Utility partnerships should, based on the practical experience of German operators, enable a systematic approach to international cooperation.

The aim is, that operators in developing and emerging countries are enabled to provide their local communities with competent and independent support. The project implements the cooperation project with the German water industry, which is anchored in the federal coalition agreement. It also leads to closer cooperation with development cooperation institutions and the VKU, which is an important cross-sectoral partner on board.
