BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues 2022/23: New Advisory Board

BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues

The environmentally sound and innovative use of water is one of the central geopolitical tasks of the 21st century and at the same time a significant economic challenge.

The BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues (BPB) series of events, launched by the Federal Environment Museum and the Berlin Senate, has established itself in recent years as a recognised forum on the subject of water in Germany. The international digital conference BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues serves the goal of virtually bringing together German and international representatives of the water sector worldwide to discuss approaches to sustainable water resource management in light of the growing global challenges posed by climate change.

For the funding period 2022 to 2023, two BPB events are to take place again, which will be thematically advised and strategically accompanied by an advisory board. As before, the focus is on the exchange between science and industry, between applied research and practice. The newly formed advisory board is made up of renowned representatives from science and research as well as decision-makers from the internationally active water industry with a focus on Water 4.0/future technologies.

A lot of experience and new faces on the Blue Planet advisory board

Claudia Castell-Exner, President of EurEau and already known as a keynote speaker at the BPB in February 2021 on the topic of Smart Water for Resilient Cities, will be joining us. We are also pleased to welcome Dr Richard Vestner, Senior Director at Bentley Systems, back to the Advisory Board. As an expert in digitalisation and member of the GWP board, he has already moderated various BLUE PLANET break-out sessions in addition to his technical support as a member of the advisory board. He played a significant role in shaping the two digital events last year with his expertise. We also welcome a familiar face in Regina Gnirss. The head of research and development at Berliner Wasserbetriebe has also contributed a lot of valuable input to the past events with a lot of project expertise and in-depth knowledge of innovative water management and will also shape the upcoming formats with us.

We are also particularly pleased to welcome two new faces: Dr Riccardo Taormina is researching urban water infrastructure at TU Delft and specialises in digital water. Prof. Dr. Andrea Cominola is a junior professor for Smart Water Networks at the Einstein Center Digitale Future and TU Berlin.

Continuation of the established English-language event series

After the digital success format convinced numerous participants worldwide in 2021 with no less than two events on the topics of “Smart Water for Resilient Cities” in spring and “Water Reuse: Opportunities & Challenges” in autumn, the project team of German Water Partnership e. V., Berlin Centre of Competence for Water, eclareon GmbH and T-Base Consulting GmbH is now entering into preparations for the event planned for autumn 2022.

The BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues is an established English-language event series in the international water sector that has existed since 2011 and was launched with the aim of creating and developing a permanent platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, concepts and experience between politicians, the private sector, scientists and non-governmental organisations. The event is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises.

With the new advisory board, concentrated expertise from the water sector is once again coming together to put together an exciting programme. We look forward to the continuation of the BLUE PLANET Berlin Water Dialogues in autumn 2022!
